The draft “Uzbekistan – 2030” strategy identifies strengthening maternal and child health and expanding preventive measures aimed at disease prevention as a top priority. The document sets the goal of fully covering certain population groups with iodine and vitamin-mineral supplements.
According to the draft, micronutrient provision to build a healthy generation and strengthen public health will be taken to a new level. In particular, it is planned to provide 100% free iodine preparations to children aged 3–15, and, based on medical indications, to supply women aged 15–35 with multivitamins, iron, and folic acid free of charge.
The strategy notes that these measures will help reduce maternal and child mortality, lower disease incidence among children, and improve overall health. Targets include cutting infectious and non-communicable diseases among children by 10%, reducing infant mortality to 6.5 per mille, and lowering under-five mortality to 9 per mille.
In addition, the plans include providing children aged 6–23 months with micronutrient powder completely free of charge and reducing helminth infections among children aged 2–10 by 15%. To improve the quality of maternity services, the number of maternity beds is set to increase to 14,373.
These measures are expected to increase the importance of prevention through regular provision of essential vitamins and trace elements, strengthen maternal and child health, and support the upbringing of a healthy, well-developed generation.
