Uzbekistan plans to raise average life expectancy to 78

In the draft “Uzbekistan – 2030” strategy, improving public health and increasing average life expectancy to 78 is defined as one of the key tasks in healthcare. To achieve this goal, the plan includes gradually improving the quality of medical services, strengthening preventive measures, and expanding mechanisms for early disease detection and effective treatment.

According to the draft strategy, healthcare financing will be steadily increased. In particular, by 2030 it is envisaged to raise the share of state budget allocations to the medical sector to 5% of GDP. This is expected to expand access to medical services for the population and strengthen the sector’s material and technical base.

Reducing premature deaths is also considered one of the strategy’s priority areas. Specifically, the goal is to cut premature mortality among people aged 30–69 from cardiovascular diseases to 27%, and premature mortality related to cancer to 5.2%.

The strategy also sets tasks to ensure full coverage of treatment for patients with diabetes and to keep premature mortality from respiratory diseases in the 30–69 age group from exceeding 1.5%. For tuberculosis, it is planned to ensure that the incidence rate does not exceed 33%.

It is noted that these measures aim to strengthen public health, reduce disease risks, and improve quality of life, thereby increasing life expectancy. For reference, in 2024 the average life expectancy of Uzbekistan’s permanent population was 75.1 years.
