Uzbekistan has stopped importing live animals from India

According to the decision of the Chief State Veterinary Inspector of the Republic of Uzbekistan, starting from January 29, 2026, the import of live animals and birds from the Republic of India has been temporarily restricted.
It is reported that this decision was made to prevent the threat of the Nipah virus entering the country.
In accordance with the decree, a temporary ban on the import of live animals and birds from all regions of India has been introduced. At the same time, the import of all types of products under the control of the state veterinary service from the territory of the Indian state of West Bengal has been temporarily suspended.
The document notes that, according to the International Organization for Animal Health (WOAH) and information published in open sources, a complex epidemiological situation has developed in the Indian state of West Bengal due to the spread of the Nipah virus.
According to the responsible agencies, these restrictive measures are aimed at ensuring epizootic stability in the country, as well as protecting public health.
