Four-story building collapses in Konya: Investigation launched

On January 24, a four-story residential building collapsed in the Turkish city of Konya. Rescue teams pulled three people alive from the rubble and recovered the bodies of two deceased. The Konya Prosecutor's Office has launched an investigation, and four individuals have been detained in connection with the incident.

According to initial reports, the disaster occurred at night in the center of the Selçuklu district. Konya Mayor Ibrahim Altay stated that the building was very old, but the exact cause of the collapse has not yet been determined.

Emergency services, rescue teams, and police promptly arrived at the scene. Out of the five people believed to be trapped under the rubble, three were rescued alive, and the bodies of the other two (a man and a woman) were recovered.

The Konya Prosecutor's Office confirmed that four people have been detained during the investigation.

“During the investigation, four individuals suspected of being involved in the incident were detained. A thorough investigation is ongoing under the supervision of the prosecutor’s office, with the participation of an expert commission,” stated Yeni Safak.

Additionally, social media footage showed a Syrian young man saving several people during the collapse. Reports indicate that the man went door-to-door in the building, knocking and warning residents during the disaster.
