Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has said he is ready to end the war in Gaza if Hamas leaders agree to step down and go into "exile." According to Axios sources, Netanyahu presented this plan during a visit to Washington.
Hostage release plan
The Israeli Prime Minister plans to extend the first phase of the agreement to release the hostages. Currently, 33 hostages are planned to be released, in exchange for which Israel is ready to release Palestinian prisoners. However, their exact number was not specified.
Possible second phase of the agreement
American officials have said that if the first phase of the agreement is extended, a new offer could be made to Hamas during the second phase of negotiations. It could include:
- Ceasefire in Gaza,
- Release of senior Palestinian prisoners,
- Hamas's relinquishment of power,
- Hamas's leadership could be exiled to a "third country."
Israel's demands and Hamas's position
The Israeli leadership claims that Hamas has agreed to relinquish "civilian control" over Gaza and hand over power to independent committees. However, Hamas is not ready to disband its movement.
Ceasefire deadline
Israel and Hamas have reached an agreement to cease fire starting January 19. The first stage lasts 42 days. The second stage is expected to begin negotiations on the release of the remaining hostages and a complete cessation of hostilities. Follow “Zamin” news on “Telegram”
