Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba presented US President Donald Trump with a golden samurai helmet, a kabuto, Kyodo News reports.
The helmet was reportedly made by Ningyouno Hanafusa Co., a company based in Tottori Prefecture in western Japan. The two leaders met in Washington last Friday.
According to a source in the agency, the idea for the gift came to Prime Minister Ishiba due to the popularity of the American-made TV series "Shogun." It is also known that the US president likes the color gold. Former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe presented Trump with a gold-plated golf club during a visit to Washington in 2016.
According to the company that made the helmet, the samurai helmet measures 57 centimeters wide, 81 centimeters high and 48 centimeters deep. It costs 168,000 yen ($1,100). The company was ordered to make the samurai helmet by the Japanese Foreign Ministry in November last year. However, they only knew that the kabuto would be given to a foreign VIP.
The Japanese prime minister became the second foreign leader to visit the United States to meet with Donald Trump. The first to visit Washington was Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Follow “Zamin” news on “Telegram”
