Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has spoken about the possibility of peace talks with Russia. According to him, if former U.S. President Donald Trump can bring both sides to the negotiating table, Kyiv may consider certain territorial agreements.
Zelensky also noted that Ukraine currently has no clear stance on which territories occupied by Russia might be discussed in such a deal.
"We never divide our territories into more or less important ones. Every square meter is significant for us, and we are not going to give it up to anyone. However, time will tell what options might be considered in the negotiation process," Zelensky stated in an interview.
Ukraine's Security is Impossible Without the U.S.
During the interview, the Ukrainian president also touched on the issue of international security guarantees. In his opinion, the U.S. plays a crucial role in this process, though Europe can also provide significant support.
"If Europe decides to send a peacekeeping contingent to Ukraine, its number should be no less than 100,000–150,000 troops. But even in this case, it would not serve as a full security guarantee. The involvement of the United States is far more important," Zelensky emphasized.
Additionally, Zelensky highlighted that the American Patriot air defense systems are far more effective than European air defense systems. He believes this could be a decisive factor in strengthening Ukraine’s air defense capabilities.
Zelensky to Meet with Trump’s Team
It is expected that in the near future, the Ukrainian leader will hold talks with Donald Trump’s team and other U.S. politicians. As part of the Munich Security Conference, Zelensky is likely to meet with U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance.
The discussions are expected to focus on potential peace talks, military and defense assistance to Ukraine, and prospects for cooperation between Washington and Kyiv.
What to Expect from the Talks?
International analysts are closely monitoring the upcoming negotiations between Zelensky and Trump’s team. If Trump indeed manages to bring Russia and Ukraine to the negotiating table, it could open new opportunities for ending the prolonged conflict.
However, it remains unclear whether the parties can reach an agreement on territorial issues. Zelensky has made it clear that Ukraine will always prioritize its national interests when making decisions. Follow “Zamin” news on “Telegram”
