Bilateral talks between British Prime Minister Keir Starmer and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky took place ahead of the summit on Ukraine.
Zelensky visited the prime minister's residence at 10 Downing Street on March 1. The talks lasted an hour. After the meeting, the Ukrainian leader left the building, and Starmer accompanied him to his car.
Starmer: "Zelensky has the full support of Britain"
British Prime Minister Keir Starmer received the Ukrainian leader and stressed that he enjoys widespread support across the country.
“As you can hear, the voices coming from outside are a confirmation of the support here and across the UK. We are with you and we will remain with Ukraine,” he said.
Starmer stressed the steadfastness of Britain’s support for Ukraine, stressing that this support will be long-term and must be based on the sovereignty and security of Kiev in order to establish lasting peace in Europe.
Zelensky: “We expect your support”
Ukrainian President Zelensky expressed gratitude to Britain and its citizens for the successful support.
He also announced that he intends to meet with British King Charles III during his visit.
“We expect your support,” Zelensky said.
According to Ukrainian media, Great Britain has signed a loan agreement for Kiev’s defense needs in the amount of 2.6 billion pounds sterling.
Zelensky arrives in London after clashing with Trump in the US
Earlier, a heated argument broke out at the White House between Ukrainian and US Presidents Donald Trump and Volodymyr Zelensky. After this, their joint press conference was canceled, and Zelensky left Washington.
Trump criticized Zelensky's position, while the Ukrainian leader said that he expected assistance to be provided to Kiev. The parties failed to reach an agreement on rare earth metals in Ukraine.
After the meeting, Trump wrote on his Truth Social page that Zelensky "is not ready for peace yet."
In an interview with Fox News, Zelensky said that he would not apologize to Trump and that there was no reason for this.
