US President Donald Trump accused Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky of underestimating the aid coming from the United States. According to Trump, Zelensky is accepting funds from the United States without any gratitude, easily.
Trump's statement came a week after a sharp dispute between the two leaders. He particularly criticized the Biden administration's provision of billions of dollars in military aid to Ukraine.
"Zelensky is just taking money from the United States like a child taking candy. He is a smart and strong man, but he took money from the United States under Biden as easily as a child taking candy," Trump said.
Trump also noted that the United States has provided Ukraine with $350 billion in aid, but Zelensky has not yet shown sufficient gratitude for this assistance. He also noted that he has taken the toughest measures against Russia among US leaders.
"I have stopped Russian oil pipelines, imposed sanctions, given Ukraine Javelin missiles, but at the same time I have a good relationship with Putin. Nobody has been tougher on Russia than I have," Trump said.
Trump's statements further reinforce his previous views and cast doubt on his position on Ukraine. He has previously expressed harsh opinions about US aid to Ukraine, calling Zelensky a "dictator." Trump's statements further strengthen speculation that he is on Moscow's side.
