Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky met with Saudi Arabia's Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman in Jeddah, where the two sides reached an agreement to further strengthen investment cooperation. The meeting took place on March 11, with a primary focus on trade, economic development, and energy cooperation.
Investment Cooperation and Economic Development
According to the official website of the President of Ukraine, Kyiv is interested in attracting Saudi investments and involving the kingdom in the country's reconstruction process.
"Ukraine is interested in enhancing cooperation in trade, economic, and energy sectors, as well as attracting investments from Saudi Arabia and its participation in the country's recovery. The Crown Prince confirmed his willingness to invest in Ukraine and its future," the statement from the Ukrainian president's office said.
Meanwhile, the Saudi Arabian Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasized that the leaders reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening investment ties, particularly in sectors such as energy, food processing, and infrastructure.
"The leaders expressed their willingness to establish promising investment and economic cooperation in industries such as oil, gas, their production, and the petrochemical sector," Riyadh stated.
The two sides also discussed potential collaboration in natural gas extraction and processing, along with the petrochemical industry.
Zelensky: Ukraine Agrees to a 30-Day Ceasefire
During the Jeddah talks, it was announced that Ukraine had accepted the U.S. proposal for a 30-day ceasefire. President Volodymyr Zelensky stated that Washington must now convince Russia to join the agreement.
"Ukraine accepts this proposal and considers it a positive step. We are ready to take this step. Now the U.S. must persuade Russia. That means we agree, and if the Russians also agree, then silence will prevail," Zelensky said.
According to him, Kyiv presented three key proposals during the talks in Saudi Arabia:
1. "Silence in the sky" – cessation of aerial attacks;
2. "Silence at sea" – restriction of military activities at sea;
3. "Release of prisoners" – activation of the prisoner exchange process.
The U.S. supported these initiatives and suggested first implementing the 30-day ceasefire, with the possibility of extending it based on further agreements.
The U.S. Resumes Intelligence Assistance to Ukraine
Following the talks between Ukraine and the United States, it was announced that Washington would resume military and intelligence support for Kyiv. The U.S. authorities have committed to immediately restoring intelligence-sharing with Ukraine and continuing their support for the country.
Andriy Yermak, the head of the Ukrainian president's office, emphasized that the U.S. must now hold consultations with Russia regarding the 30-day ceasefire.
"The U.S. must make it clear to the Russian Federation that the key to achieving peace depends on its political will," Yermak noted.
Will Ukraine-Saudi Arabia Cooperation Continue to Strengthen?
The Jeddah meeting marked an important step not only in ceasefire negotiations but also in the economic partnership between Ukraine and Saudi Arabia.
According to the Financial Times, the negotiations are not expected to continue on March 12, but Saudi Arabia and Ukraine have agreed to begin working on joint investment projects in the coming months.
This could serve as a crucial step not only toward peace negotiations but also in Ukraine's economic recovery and the strengthening of its strategic partnership with Saudi Arabia. Follow “Zamin” news on “Telegram”
