Monkey caught stealing money in Peru

Monkey caught stealing money in Peru
Police in Peru have arrested an unusual offender who damaged several homes. Officers have caught a runaway monkey who caused a disturbance and stole money. This was reported by the Peruvian National Forestry and Wildlife Service.

Residents of the city of Ica contacted police and reported seeing money scattered on roofs, trees and even electrical wires. It later turned out that the theft and disorder was committed by a domestic monkey that had escaped from its owner.

The suspect monkey (a black-headed male capuchin) entered several homes and ransacked the rooms. In the end, the “criminal” was caught and taken down from the tree.

During the investigation, officials determined that the animal was not native to the Amazon region, but rather a species common in the Amazon. Rope marks on the monkey's back indicated that it had been raised in a home.

Officials said that the animal was so used to being handled that police were hesitant to release it into the wild. The monkey is currently being held at a local zoo in the city of Ica. It is not yet known whether the animal will remain there or be relocated to another reserve.
