US may exit Ukraine peace talks

US President Donald Trump may withdraw from mediation in the Ukraine-Russia conflict if no clear signs of a deal emerge in the coming days, vedomosti.ru reported.

Secretary of State Marco Rubio said on April 18 that Washington won't stay involved for weeks or months without tangible progress. Trump has already invested significant time and political capital in peace efforts.

Rubio held a call with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and discussed recent contacts with Ukraine and France. France, Germany, and the UK (E3) also joined negotiations in Paris.

Ukraine and the US signed a minerals memorandum, while discussions with a “coalition of the willing” covered ceasefire terms. Russian officials, including Peskov and Nebenzya, said a ceasefire is unrealistic for now.
