Congo shipwreck: 148 dead, more than 100 missing
At least 148 people have died in a shipwreck and fire in the northwestern Democratic Republic of Congo. More than 100 people are missing, the Associated Press reported.

The tragedy occurred on April 16 when a fire broke out in the kitchen of the HB Kongolo, a ship carrying about 500 passengers. The ship was sailing along the Congo River from the port of Matancum to the city of Bolomba.

Most of the survivors suffered severe burns as a result of the tragedy. The Congolese government and the Red Cross are currently searching for the missing.
