More than 200,000 people gathered for Pope Francis' funeral

Today, April 26, a major historical event took place in St. Peter's Square in the Vatican: the funeral procession of the leader of Catholics, the beloved Pope of millions of people around the world, Francis, took place. Approximately 200,000 people gathered on the square since early morning to say goodbye to Pope Francis.

The ceremony was attended by world leaders, heads of international organizations and thousands of worshipers. Among them were many heads of state and government, such as US President Joe Biden, French President Emmanuel Macron, and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

Pope Francis valued humility and simplicity throughout his life. Therefore, his funeral was also organized in a modest, unobtrusive manner. The Pope's coffin was made of specially prepared simple wood and reinforced with brass. It was respectfully carried by thousands of people during the service in St. Peter's Square.

At the end of the ceremony, the participants sang a touching Latin hymn: "May the angels lead you to heaven; may the martyrs welcome you and bring you to the holy city." These words deeply touched the hearts of the thousands of people gathered.

After the ceremony, Pope Francis' coffin was taken to one of his favorite places of worship, the church of Santa Maria Maggiore in Rome.

It is noteworthy that ordinary people, including prisoners and migrants, also participated in the funeral service.
