A significant resolution, initiated by Uzbekistan, was unanimously approved at the United Nations General Assembly in New York. The press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan reported.
This resolution, entitled "Decade of Action for Afforestation and Forest Restoration Based on Sustainable Forest Management," calls on countries around the world to unite efforts to preserve the environment, expand green spaces, and combat climate change.
It should be noted that this global document was supported by more than 80 countries, and its co-authors, along with the countries of Central Asia, include such major countries as Russia, Azerbaijan, Germany, Austria, Finland, Portugal, India, Iran, Pakistan, the UAE, Qatar, Bahrain, and Brazil.
This initiative is a logical continuation of such important initiatives as the “Year of Environmental Protection and Green Economy” program, the national “Green Space” project, and the “Central Asian Green Belt” tree planting campaign put forward by the President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev.
The adopted resolution declared the period from 2027 to 2036 as the Decade of Action on Afforestation and Forest Restoration. At the same time, it calls on countries, international organizations, and civil society representatives from all over the world to pool their resources and strengthen measures in this area during this period.
It should be recalled that in 2023, at the initiative of Shavkat Mirziyoyev, the resolution “Central Asia in the Face of Global Climate Threats: Strengthening Regional Solidarity for Sustainable Development and Prosperity” was unanimously approved by the UN General Assembly.
This international initiative of Uzbekistan is of great importance not only for the country, but also for the whole world in protecting the environment, combating climate change, and developing a green economy. Read 'Zamin' on Telegram!
