About 600 North Korean soldiers who were involved in the war with the Russian army against Ukraine have died. This was reported by the Reuters news agency, citing South Korean intelligence.
It turned out that the DPRK soldiers were mainly sent to the Kursk region of Russia, and the bodies of North Korean soldiers who died in the fighting were cremated there. According to the agency, the total losses of the North Korean army, including the wounded, exceeded 4,700 people.
The North Korean soldiers were recruited into the Russian army under a bilateral strategic partnership agreement signed in June 2024. According to estimates, the DPRK may have sent about 15 thousand soldiers to the war. Russian President Vladimir Putin thanked North Korean leader Kim Jong-un for this assistance.
In turn, Kim Jong-un called the Russian soldiers who participated in the war "heroes" and described their participation in the operation against Ukraine as a "sacred mission." He also announced that a special monument would be erected in Pyongyang in honor of these soldiers.
The North Korean military mastered the use of new weapons, in particular drones, during the Ukrainian war and significantly increased its combat potential.
It should be recalled that in January of this year, the Ukrainian army captured two North Korean soldiers in the Kursk region. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky released a video on January 12 showing the interrogation of the captured DPRK soldiers. It appears in the video that they did not know they were on a battlefield, they were told it was just a training exercise. Read 'Zamin' on Telegram!
