A court in Paris has found famous French actor Gerard Depardieu guilty of sexual assault and sentenced the 76-year-old actor to 18 months in prison. This was reported by the French channel BFM TV.
According to the charges, Depardieu sexually assaulted two women in an unknown manner during the filming of a film in 2021. Based on the testimony of the victims, the case was sent to the prosecutor's office and the actor was formally charged. During the trial, Depardieu defended himself and denied all the charges.
The prosecutor's office had asked for a 1.5-year suspended prison sentence for Depardieu and a fine of 20,000 euros. After reviewing all the evidence and testimony, the court found a suspended prison sentence appropriate.
This is not the first time such accusations have been made against the actor. In November 2023, a documentary aired on France 2 accused Depardieu of sexual assault, two of whom described the rape. Mediapart also reported last spring that a separate investigation was underway based on the testimony of 13 more women.
Gerard Depardieu is an artist who has gained great prestige not only in France but also internationally during his acting career. At the same time, the increasing number of sexual assault allegations against him in recent years has seriously affected his personal and social life.
