On May 14, US President Donald Trump and Syrian interim President Ahmed al-Sharaa met in the Saudi capital, Riyadh. The Associated Press reported.
White House Press Secretary Carolyn Levitt provided some details of the meeting. According to her, during the meeting, the US President demanded that the Syrian leader officially recognize Israel diplomatically and expel all foreign terrorists from the country. Donald Trump also called for close cooperation with the US in combating any resurgence of the ISIS terrorist organization and urged Syria to sign the historic Abraham Accords with Israel.
In addition, the US President asked the Syrian government to take responsibility for ISIS militants remaining in the country. Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa, in turn, invited American investors to the country's oil and gas industry, noting that this would serve to develop the country's economy and further expand international cooperation. The Syrian president also said that the country has the potential to serve as an important bridge in trade relations between the East and the West.

Ahmad al-Sharaa thanked Donald Trump, Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan for their efforts in organizing the meeting. At the same time, it was noted that the two countries have common goals in combating terrorism and eliminating chemical weapons. The meeting also discussed the war in Ukraine and the situation in the Gaza Strip.
It is noteworthy that this meeting was the first historic dialogue between the leaders of the United States and Syria in the past 25 years.
