Is Putin avoiding peace? Harsh statement from the German Defense Minister
After negotiations held in Istanbul, Turkey, aimed at peacefully resolving the conflict in Ukraine, German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius harshly criticized Russian President Vladimir Putin. According to him, Putin is not taking seriously the possibility of ending the war in Ukraine and is not interested in peacefully resolving the situation.

At a meeting held in Rome (Italy) on Friday, Pistorius discussed the current situation in detail with his colleagues from Italy, France, the United Kingdom, and Poland. The German Defense Minister noted that Vladimir Putin initially expressed willingness to personally participate in important ceasefire negotiations but later changed his mind and sent a low-level delegation to Turkey in his place.

"The Russian leader initially expressed interest in holding negotiations to cease fire and peacefully resolve the situation, but then sent a very low-level delegation to the meeting, thereby demonstrating his true intentions," said Pistorius.

The minister also specifically emphasized that Putin categorically refuses to hold a personal meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. "Putin, by this, is openly showing that he is currently absolutely uninterested in stopping aggressive military actions in Ukraine," added Germany’s Defense Minister.

Pistorius also pointed out that there is absolutely no "real effort to find a peaceful solution to the situation" in the position of the Russian leader.

Critically addressing this situation, Germany’s Defense Minister once again confirmed that European countries and their allies will decisively continue to provide comprehensive and consistent support to Ukraine.

"European allies and their partners will continue to provide large-scale support to Ukraine. We are firm and consistent in our actions regarding this issue," Pistorius stated.

According to him, besides additional military aid to be provided to Kyiv, the issue of monitoring a possible ceasefire in Ukraine was also discussed.

"We discussed who and in which format could take responsibility for monitoring the ceasefire process," the minister informed.

Thus, international cooperation and actions aimed at establishing peace and ending the war in Ukraine continue actively. However, concerns remain that the Russian leadership's tough stance could further complicate the situation.
