Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President Donald Trump spoke by phone. The conversation took place during Putin's visit to the Sirius educational complex in Sochi.
According to Putin, he informed Trump that Russia is ready to offer Ukraine a "memorandum of a future peace settlement."
The Russian president also added that the resumption of peace talks with Ukraine in Istanbul shows that the parties are "on the right track."
"The conversation was frank and meaningful. I think it was very useful. I thanked Donald Trump for his direct support for the resumption of negotiations. He explained his position on the issue of a ceasefire. I emphasized that Russia is for a peaceful resolution of the conflict. We need to find the most effective ways to peace.
We agreed that the Russian Federation is ready to work with the Ukrainian side on the future memorandum of understanding - its principles, terms, etc., including the possibility of a ceasefire for a certain period if certain agreements are reached. Contacts between the participants of the meeting in Istanbul have been restored...
I highly appreciate the conversation. The main issue is that both sides make maximum efforts to achieve peace and find compromises that will satisfy all parties. In general, Russia's position is clear: the most important thing for us is to eliminate the causes of the crisis," Putin said after the conversation. Read 'Zamin' on Telegram!
