
Tiger attacks have become a serious threat to the population in Chandrapur district of Maharashtra, India. According to the Times of India, the predators have claimed the lives of eight people in the last eight days. The total number of deaths due to tiger attacks since the beginning of the new year has reached 21.
Every day is a new tragedy
While Chandrapur recorded 29 wildlife-related deaths in 2024, in the first five months of 2025, 21 cases were related to tigers alone. The most recent case occurred in Bhandurna village. 70-year-old Rishi Pendor went missing and his body was found in the Tadoba-Andhari Wildlife Sanctuary. According to local information, Pendor suffered from mental illness and entered the forest alone.
Leaf picking leads to death
The next victim, 63-year-old Maroti Shende, was attacked by a tiger while picking leaves in the forest near Nagbhid. He died on the way to the hospital with serious injuries.
Government measures: masks and walking in groups
The Forestry Department has acknowledged the seriousness of the situation and has issued new safety guidelines. Citizens who are picking leaves or fruits are advised to:
- enter the forest only after 08:00;
- leave before 17:00;
- always walk in groups;
- wear masks with inscriptions to scare away tigers;
