Against the backdrop of European tensions, Belgium is increasing its military potential
At a time when the international situation is becoming increasingly tense, the Belgian government has decided to significantly increase its defense capabilities. The country's government announced that it will invest 36 billion euros in the development of the armed forces. This was reported by the Top War publication, citing Belgian sources.

Military spending to be increased in two stages

According to the plan, initially military spending will be brought to 2 percent of Belgium's gross domestic product. This is considered a move in line with NATO requirements. The next stage is aimed at fully equipping the armed forces with infrastructure and modern equipment.

Investments will cover several strategic areas:
• Land forces.
• Air defense.
• Aviation.
• Information and control systems.

Land forces and aviation capabilities to be expanded

10 billion euros are planned for the land army. This money will be used to upgrade new weapons, equipment and logistics capabilities.

In the aviation sector, the Belgian government plans to purchase an additional 21 F-35 fighter jets. This purchase will bring the total number of F-35s to 55. This country can bring the air force to the most advanced level in Europe.

Great attention is also paid to air defense and information systems

In order to strengthen its air defense capabilities, the Belgian government will purchase 10 NASAMS systems. It is also planned to purchase 300 Piorun portable launchers and Sky Guardian drones manufactured in Poland.

As for information management systems, 5 billion euros will be allocated to the formation of integrated data centers on a European scale. This is being developed as part of a digital military strategy.

Capabilities at sea will also expand

The navy is not left out of the defense strategy. The purchase of additional frigates is envisaged, which will ensure the strengthening of the combat and technical capabilities of the Belgian Navy.

Conclusion: Belgium is entering a new phase in security policy

Against the backdrop of international geopolitical tensions, in particular the war in Ukraine and threats to NATO countries, the Belgian government is raising defense to the level of national priority. These investments serve to further strengthen the country's responsibility within NATO and adapt to modern military standards.

At the same time, these decisions by Belgium also reflect the new reality in security policy within the European Union.
