A Turner painting that was thought to be lost has been found after 150 years!
The British art world has been rocked by a sensational discovery. A painting by the famous English artist William Turner, thought to have been lost for generations, has been rediscovered, the BBC reports.

The Rising Squall is a watercolour painting depicting the dramatic backdrop of the Hot Wells hot springs in Bristol. It is one of Turner's earliest works, and he painted it when he was just 17 years old.

The painting was first exhibited at the Royal Academy in London in 1793. However, there is no information about the fate of the painting after 1858. It was last seen in public in Australia, after which it disappeared completely.

In 2024, during an accidental restoration, Turner's signature was discovered under the painting, which later proved its true authorship. Experts had previously known that Turner's first work in watercolor was "The Fisherman at Sea", but the new discovery prompted a revision of this information.

According to art historians, this picture is a great discovery not only for Turner's creative heritage, but also for the entire British fine arts. Now the work will be exhibited by Sotheby's auction house in London from June 28 to July 1, and then put up for auction. The price of the rare canvas is set at 300 thousand pounds sterling (about 380 thousand dollars).

The rediscovery of this painting and scientific reflections on Turner's legacy may open a new era in British painting in the future.
