A new initiative by the US State Department may further tighten entry rules into the country. According to information published by The Washington Post, the US government plans to restrict the issuance of visas to citizens of 36 countries. Among these countries are most of Africa, as well as several states from Asia and the Caribbean region, including Kyrgyzstan.
Among the countries included in the list are Egypt, Djibouti, Cameroon, Ethiopia, Benin, Cambodia, Bhutan, Syria, Tuvalu, Zambia, and others. This list further increases US suspicion towards citizens of regions considered high-risk.
According to the document, the State Department has set a 60-day deadline for these countries to fulfill new requirements. If these criteria are not met, restrictions will be imposed on issuing US visas to their citizens. Among the main reasons indicated are the absence of authorized bodies to issue reliable documents, cases of document forgery, and non-compliance with visa validity periods.
Analysts assess this decision as a continuation of Donald Trump’s aggressive immigration policy. Previously, he had imposed a full visa ban on citizens of 12 countries and partial restrictions on 7 countries. This time’s list seems like an even broader application of Trump’s 2023 idea to ban citizens from regions such as Gaza, Yemen, Libya, and Syria.
So far, the State Department and the White House have refrained from officially commenting on these documents. However, diplomatic sources expect that the implementation of this decision will have a significant impact on US immigration policy.
Experts note that this decision may have a negative effect on international relations, especially on US cooperation with Africa and Asia. At the same time, such restrictions will also become a serious barrier for thousands of ordinary citizens planning to obtain a US visa.
The restrictions introduced by the US to ensure security may also cool political relations with other countries. Some states on the list are considered long-time US partners, and this may lead to tension in relations with them.
Therefore, in the coming weeks, it is expected that this US initiative will become a subject of wide discussion and cause new political disputes on the international stage. Read 'Zamin' on Telegram!
