A Chinese man, frustrated with his life, chose to live in a cave
In China’s Sichuan province, 35-year-old Min Hencai, after life’s trials, problems, and various difficulties, made an unexpected decision: he became disillusioned with work and marriage, gave up city life, and began living in a cave. This was reported by the South China Morning Post.

Min Hencai previously worked in the city as a taxi driver for more than ten hours a day, struggled for life, and earned about $1,400 a month. But the real reason for this work was large debts to relatives and financial obligations. According to him, he owed more than $42,000 to banks and credit organizations. In the end, after hearing that his relatives had sold his property, he decided to start a new chapter in his life.

In 2021, Min returned to his homeland and moved to a place where he could find inner peace — a cave in the village. He exchanged his land plot for a small yard of a fellow villager and got the opportunity to use the nearby natural cave as his home. He spent $6,000 to furnish this 50-square-meter cave-house.

Now Min Hencai’s daily routine is very simple and, at the same time, meaningful for him: every day he wakes up at 8:00 a.m., spends the day reading books, taking long walks, and working in the garden in nature. He also runs a personal blog with more than 40,000 followers, sharing his life and experiences with users. At night, he goes to bed around midnight. His diet mainly consists of vegetables he grows himself.

Min Hencai jokingly calls his cave home a “black hole” and does not hide that he dreamed of exactly such a free and calm lifestyle when he lived and worked in the city. In his opinion, personal happiness and inner peace are not found in worldly wealth or material prosperity, but in harmony with nature, true independence, and a simple life.

Min considers work a “pointless activity.” Marriage does not interest him either, because he considers it a “waste of time and money” and does not believe in the possibility of finding true love. “I do not have to gradually work for something unique. In life, a person should find their own will, choose the life that suits them,” he says.

Today, many people rush toward material success and a showy life, but individuals like Min Hencai consider personal tranquility and peace as the most important value. His experience shows that even in the hardest times, it is possible to look at life differently and find new opportunities.
