China has become the world leader in solar and wind energy

According to recent data, China has set a historic record in solar and wind energy. The total capacity of solar power plants in the country has exceeded 1,000 gigawatts — approximately half of the total global solar energy capacity!

This was reported by "The Guardian" newspaper, citing a report from the prestigious American analytical center — the Asia Society Policy Institute (ASPI). According to the report, from January to May 2024 alone, China launched 198 GW of solar and 46 GW of wind power plants. This enormous figure is considered the largest energy construction project in China’s history.

93 GW of solar in one month — such speed exists nowhere else!
According to ASPI, in May alone, China managed to build new stations providing 93 GW of solar and 26 GW of wind energy. These figures indicate a massive shift not only for China but for global energy as a whole. The capacity of these new stations equals the entire electricity production of countries like Turkey and Indonesia.

China’s leadership in green energy
In recent years, China has defined the development of renewable energy as one of its strategic goals. In April, Chinese President Xi Jinping stated that the country had created “the largest and most complete supply chain in the new energy industry.”

In particular, China is currently unmatched in the production of electric vehicles, batteries, solar panels, and other clean energy equipment. The country not only satisfies its domestic needs but also leads in exporting these technologies globally.

Global interest in green energy is growing
While China sets records in this field, renewable energy is also rapidly developing in other countries. For example, by the end of 2024, 47% of all electricity produced in the European Union is expected to come from renewable sources. Of that, 17.4% will be generated by wind power.

These figures clearly show the global trend in energy — the future belongs to renewables. Every country is striving to find its place in this sector. However, China’s role and influence in this direction today significantly surpass the rest.
