A severe flood on the Guadalupe River in Texas shocked the entire country. According to Reuters, local government officials and rescue services reported that at least 24 people lost their lives as a result of this disaster, and dozens more are missing. Interlocutors note that the death toll may rise, as among the missing are 23-25 children who were resting at a summer girls’ camp on the banks of the Guadalupe River.
Heavy rain that began last night local time sharply raised the water level in the Guadalupe River in a short time, and recreation areas along the banks were submerged. Local residents and rescuers tried to evacuate children and adults from the camp area, but the strong current did not allow them to move everyone to safety in time.
Texas Governor Greg Abbott, 18 hours after the crisis began, stated that the resources for the special search and rescue operation would be “unlimited” and that searches would not stop. He expressed condolences to the relatives of the deceased and promised that all opportunities would be mobilized.
US President Donald Trump also told journalists that the federal government would help the victims and their families. According to him, “We will take care of them,” he emphasized.
The US National Weather Service declared a state of emergency in Kerr County, located northwest of San Antonio, due to this natural disaster. It is reported that up to 30 centimeters of precipitation fell in the area within a few hours.
Officials and local residents note that such natural disasters have rarely been observed in the area in recent years. Search and rescue operations are still ongoing, and the situation on the banks of the Guadalupe remains tense. Read 'Zamin' on Telegram!
