U.S. President Donald Trump has harshly criticized Vladimir Putin in the context of efforts to end the war between Russia and Ukraine. According to him, although conversations with the Russian president are always “very polite,” there are no actual results.
“Many people are dying, and this has to stop. Frankly, we’re only hearing empty words from Putin. He’s always very courteous, but ultimately nothing comes of it,” said Trump.
He noted that the most recent phone conversation on the Russia–Ukraine conflict also did not lead to any progress. “I’m willing to speak with Putin, but he’s still not serious about ending the war,” the politician emphasized.
Trump also mentioned that he is “very seriously” considering the new sanctions bill against Russia proposed by Senator Lindsey Graham. “Well, I wouldn’t tell you that. Maybe we’ll make a little surprise?” he told reporters.
As a reminder, the sanctions package introduced in April proposes a 500% tariff on goods from countries that trade with Russia and do not provide aid to Ukraine. The initiative has been supported by more than 80 of the 100 senators.
