Kazakhstan President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev sent an official response to US President Donald Trump following the decision to impose tariffs on the country's goods, Akorda reported.
In a statement released by the presidential press service, it was emphasized that Tokayev noted Kazakhstan as one of the United States’ long-standing and reliable trade and investment partners, and stressed that trade relations between the two countries must be developed in a transparent, stable, and mutually beneficial manner.
According to him, Kazakhstan supports resolving this issue through a coordinated and rational approach. To this end, Tokayev confirmed his readiness to continue an open and practical dialogue with the United States. The head of state expressed confidence that trade disputes between the two countries could be resolved through a compromise-based approach.
Earlier, on July 7, it was reported that US President Trump had sent letters to leaders of several countries. The letter stated that tariffs would be sharply increased starting from August 1. Tokayev was also among the recipients of the letter, in which it was mentioned that an additional 25% tariff would be applied to products from Kazakhstan.
Following this, Kazakhstan's Ministry of Trade announced that it had sent specific and well-founded proposals to the White House. According to the ministry's official representative, the new tariffs will not affect 95% of Kazakhstan’s exports to the United States. In particular, oil, uranium, ferroalloys, tantalum, silver, and titanium will not be subject to the tariffs.
This demonstrates Kazakhstan’s intention to maintain balance in its foreign economic policy. Officials noted that diplomatic measures will be taken to prevent any confrontation in bilateral relations and ensure the continued development of strategic partnership.
Analysts in international relations consider this process part of the United States’ broader revision of its tariff policy. Kazakhstan, in turn, is choosing the path of dialogue to defend its economic interests. Read 'Zamin' on Telegram!
