Zelensky sets a condition: a meeting of the leaders of Ukraine, Russia, and the USA is expected

New steps are being taken to end the war in Ukraine: President Volodymyr Zelensky gave a clear answer to the question under what conditions the next negotiations with Moscow will take place, reported dw.com. On July 10, at the 4th International Conference on the Reconstruction of Ukraine after the war, held in Rome, Zelensky answered journalists' questions.

According to the head of state, for the negotiation process to be more meaningful, first of all, the parties must fully complete previous agreements—namely, the exchanges carried out at the second meeting in Istanbul. “We need to complete the agreements reached on June 2 in Istanbul, the exchange of seriously wounded and prisoners under 25 years old, as well as the transfer of the bodies of fallen soldiers,” he said.

For information: during June, Ukraine and Russia exchanged prisoners of war and bodies of the deceased several times. After the Istanbul negotiations, various exchanges took place on June 9, 10, 12, 19, and 20. In Zelensky’s opinion, this process will be fully completed soon, and after that, it will be possible to prepare a new stage—a direct meeting at the level of leaders.

Zelensky emphasized that the most appropriate format for negotiations is a meeting of Ukraine–Russia–USA at the level of heads of state. In his opinion, such a dialogue should discuss not only words but also specific and practical guarantees. “There should be not only discussions at the table but also concrete guarantees,” said the president.

It should be noted that the Vatican, Austria, Switzerland, and Turkey have already offered venues for these negotiations. The Ukrainian leadership is carefully studying these proposals and is working to ensure that the discussions are held in the most effective and stable format that meets all requirements.

The final decision and date of the meeting are still unclear. However, according to the President of Ukraine, the main goal now is to fully complete the humanitarian exchange process and then ensure the start of decisive negotiations at the leadership level.
