An incident in India has shocked not only a family but also challenged societal values. A 55-year-old man named Shakeel ran away with his son’s future bride — 22-year-old Ayesha — taking the family’s gold savings with him. This was reported by Pravilamag.ru.
Shakeel, a father of six and grandfather of three, was the one who introduced his son Aman to Ayesha for an arranged marriage.
The family opposed the union due to social and financial inequality between the two families.
During the wedding preparations, Shakeel frequently visited the bride-to-be’s home, which raised suspicions in his wife.
She informed her son, who then discovered intimate photos of Ayesha in his father’s phone, as well as call logs indicating frequent communication.
In June, Shakeel left home saying he was going to work but instead fled to Delhi with Ayesha.
He also took 200,000 rupees (approximately $2,400) and gold jewelry from the family.
A few days later, he called his wife to say he had married Ayesha.
The wife responded: “Ayesha was supposed to be my son’s bride. Now she’s my husband’s wife.”
In India, Muslim men are allowed to have up to four wives.
However, for people of other faiths, polygamy is a crime punishable by up to 7 years in prison.
Additionally, Shakeel may face up to 3 years in prison for stealing the family’s wealth.
Local police stated that the family has not yet filed an official complaint.
