The killers of SBU Colonel Ivan Voronych, who was shot dead on the morning of July 10 in Ukraine’s capital Kyiv, have been eliminated. This was stated in an official announcement by the head of the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU), Vasyl Maliuk.
According to Maliuk, the individuals who targeted Voronych were specially trained agents of the Russian FSB. The group consisted of a man and a woman who had been sent to Ukraine in advance and, over several days in Kyiv, followed the colonel’s schedule and movements.
According to investigative findings, shortly before the assassination, they received the coordinates of a location where their FSB handler had hidden a pistol, and then carried out the shooting. As Voronych was leaving his house, the killer approached and fired five shots. After the crime, the attackers tried to hide in Kyiv region.
"As a result of covert search and counterintelligence actions, the enemy’s location was identified. During the arrest attempt, they resisted, shots were fired, and they were eliminated," said SBU chief Maliuk.
He added that during the special operation, the attackers’ hideout was discovered, and a shootout occurred at the scene. In the video released during his statement, vehicles and bodies lying on the ground can be seen behind Maliuk.
It should be reminded that 50-year-old Ivan Voronych was shot dead on July 10 around 09:00 AM while leaving his home. According to Ukrainian media, a man approached and fired five shots at him with a pistol, then fled the scene. The colonel died on the spot from severe injuries.
This incident once again proves that external threats against Ukraine’s security system are intensifying. The swift response by the security services demonstrates a serious approach to maintaining domestic security. Read 'Zamin' on Telegram!
