Spy activity by Russia in Germany has sharply increased
Over the past year, Germany has faced serious problems in intelligence and security. According to Martina Rosenberg, head of the military counterintelligence service MAD, in an interview with dpa, Russian intelligence services have sharply increased espionage and sabotage activities. This situation is alarming not only official Berlin but also the entire European security system, writes dw.com.

Rosenberg said that recently Russia has been taking new and aggressive approaches to espionage and the use of hybrid measures. “They are expanding their activities, using classic methods known since the Cold War, combined with the latest technological capabilities,” she said. This includes attempts at espionage on Germany’s military facilities, infrastructure, and supply lines, as well as disinformation, cyberattacks, electronic warfare, and drone-based reconnaissance.

The counterintelligence chief noted that the number of such cases has almost doubled over the past year. The activity of Russian agents is mainly related to entering Germany through third countries. “Agents try to establish new trusted connections or collect information through people of Russian nationality, ethnic German repatriates, or individuals connected to the Russian Federation,” Rosenberg said.

It is particularly noteworthy that Russia has been seen influencing people with dual citizenship or German military personnel. Especially those who travel to Russia or its allied states face an increased risk of pressure and coercion to cooperate. This is a new dangerous trend for Germany and poses a serious threat to national security.

Experts emphasize that such hybrid actions and espionage attempts are a major blow to the European security system. The German counterintelligence service urges citizens and military personnel to be careful, follow security protocols, and protect themselves from such threats.

Final conclusion:
The security situation in Germany has become even more complicated due to Russian espionage activities and hybrid attacks. This creates not only domestic but also foreign policy challenges and tests for the country.
