Spy activity by Russia in Germany has sharply increased

The counterintelligence chief noted that the number of such cases has almost doubled over the past year. The activity of Russian agents is mainly related to entering Germany through third countries. “Agents try to establish new trusted connections or collect information through people of Russian nationality, ethnic German repatriates, or individuals connected to the Russian Federation,” Rosenberg said.

It is particularly noteworthy that Russia has been seen influencing people with dual citizenship or German military personnel. Especially those who travel to Russia or its allied states face an increased risk of pressure and coercion to cooperate.
