Recently, another wedding in the Philippines created a striking scene: the bride, groom, and guests stood knee-deep in water as the ceremony took place. This time, the flood-submerged wedding went viral on social media, once again showcasing the resilience and tolerance of Filipinos to the world.
But this wasn’t the first time. In recent years, similar incidents have occurred several times at this historic church. The situation has become a symbolic reflection of the worsening flood problems in the Philippines.
The truth behind the weddings: a long-unresolved issue
The Philippines, located by the Pacific Ocean, is one of the countries most frequently hit by tropical typhoons. Around 20 cyclones form annually, half of which directly impact the country. This results in constant rain, landslides, floods, and water buildup.
Why do they still get married in such conditions?
The bride Jamaica and groom Jade told reporters that the night before, they were hesitant about whether to cancel or proceed with the ceremony. But in the end, love and the support of their loved ones took priority.
After the ceremony, the first thing they did was go to the health center for antibiotics — to protect themselves from waterborne diseases, especially hepatitis and leptospirosis. Another memorable detail: just hours after the wedding, a funeral took place at the same church. The funeral, too, was held knee-deep in water.
