U.S. President Donald Trump said he would visit Russia on August 15, but this statement was likely a slip of the tongue. In fact, on that day he is scheduled to meet Russian President Vladimir Putin in the U.S. state of Alaska, reports Pravilamag.
Trump’s remark, “I’m going to Russia,” came during his speech at the White House, broadcast live on C-SPAN. The Kremlin also confirmed the meeting, noting that holding it in Alaska would be logical and convenient.
The meeting is expected to focus on resolving the Russia–Ukraine conflict.
For reference, Trump has visited Russia five times. His first visit was in July 1987 to explore business opportunities in the USSR, including the idea of building a hotel with the Soviet government and the “Intourist” travel company. His most recent visit was in 2013, when he organized the Miss Universe beauty pageant in Moscow, of which he was a co-owner at the time.
This event carries significant political importance in the context of U.S.–Russia relations.
