Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has once again publicly reaffirmed his firm stance on Donbas. According to the head of state, Kyiv will not leave this region under any circumstances, and no one can force them to do so.
“We will not leave Donbas. We cannot do that. If we voluntarily leave Donbas or come under pressure to do so, we will start a third war,” Zelensky said in his statement.
Moscow’s proposal and Kyiv’s response
The Wall Street Journal reports that earlier, Moscow had proposed that Kyiv abandon Donbas in exchange for a ceasefire. However, Zelensky emphasized that, according to Ukraine’s Constitution, he would never agree to any territorial concessions. In his view, such a move would be a direct threat to the country’s sovereignty.
Upcoming negotiations
According to available information, on August 15, an important meeting will take place in Anchorage, Alaska, USA, between Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin. The negotiations are expected to address the issue of resolving the Russia–Ukraine conflict.
Political observers believe that the Donbas issue will be one of the key and most contentious topics in these talks. Fans and the international community are eagerly awaiting to see what agreements might be reached.
