In Nigeria’s Katsina state, on August 19, armed individuals attacked a mosque, resulting in at least 27 deaths. This was reported by Al Jazeera.
According to local residents, the incident took place in the mosque of Unguwan Mantau village in the Malumfashi district during the dawn prayer. The armed attackers opened fire inside the mosque at around 04:00 local time. So far, no group or individual has claimed responsibility for the attack.
In recent years, such armed attacks have occurred regularly in Nigeria’s northwestern and north-central regions. In these areas, herders and farmers often clash over limited land and water resources, which contributes to armed conflicts.
To protect the Unguwan Mantau area, army and police forces have been deployed urgently. Armed groups often hide among the crops during the rainy season and launch sudden attacks on mosques and villages.
The attack also left injured people who are receiving medical assistance. Local residents received the event with shock and horror and are demanding stronger security measures to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
