The incident that occurred in China shocked not only the local but also the international community. A 17-year-old girl sold her 19-year-old boyfriend to scammers in Myanmar for 14 thousand dollars as a slave, the publication “Thaiger” reported. This case once again demonstrated how the illusion of “love and trust” in youth can have terrible consequences.
According to the publication, the boy and girl met in a billiard hall. During their conversation, the girl boasted about her wealthy parents in Myanmar and promised to help the boy find a job. Under the “torments of love,” the boy believed this promise and traveled with his girlfriend to Bangkok in February of this year.
However, on the way to the Thailand-Myanmar border, they got into a dispute. At that moment, armed individuals attacked the boy, took his phone and passport. For the next four months, the boy was held captive, regularly subjected to torture: his hair was shaved, and he was forced to engage in online scams. If he failed to follow instructions, he was beaten on the back with an iron rod. As a result of the constant torture, the boy lost over 10 kilograms and partially lost his hearing.
Meanwhile, the captors contacted the boy’s family and demanded a ransom of 48 thousand dollars. Within four months, the required amount was collected, and the boy was released. At that time, the girl was resting in Thailand and was arrested upon returning to China. She is now facing trial on charges of fraud and human trafficking.
The victim’s sister described her shock as follows: “She is only 17 years old. Who would have thought she would commit such evil? It is hard to believe she is capable of such disgusting actions.”
This incident once again drew attention to issues of trust, love, and dangerous cooperation among youth. Reflections on moral upbringing, personal safety, and family relationships become especially important after such tragic events.
