Ukraine demands UN meeting on Kiev strikes

Ukrainian officials, after major attacks on the city of Kyiv and other regions, appealed to the international community. The country submitted an official request to hold an emergency meeting of the UN Security Council. This was reported by a number of international media outlets citing their sources.

According to the information, an agency source stated that the date of the meeting has not yet been specifically determined. However, the request is based on Articles 34 and 35 of the UN Charter. Article 34 grants the Security Council the authority to examine situations that pose a threat to international peace and security. Article 35 gives any UN member state the opportunity to bring an issue to the attention of the Security Council or the General Assembly.

It is noted that the agenda of the meeting is planned under the theme “Ensuring peace and security in Ukraine.”

At the same time, the Russian Ministry of Defense announced that on the night of August 28, group strikes were carried out with “long-range precision weapons” and attack drones against Ukraine’s military-industrial complex enterprises and military air bases.

The Ukrainian government, in response, declares that residential neighborhoods of the city of Kyiv were also attacked. According to official information, 19 civilians were killed as a result of the incident.

This event has caused serious concern in the international community. Ukraine is calling on the UN to play a more active role in ensuring peace and security on a global scale. Therefore, in the coming days, intensive discussions of the situation in Ukraine are expected at the UN Security Council meeting.
