Direct peace negotiations between Moscow and Kyiv at the level of heads of state will inevitably take place sooner or later, and Ukraine is confident it will emerge victorious in this process, said Head of the Office of the President of Ukraine Andriy Yermak in an interview with DW on August 29.
«Right now we are asking the international community — bring Russia to the negotiating table, and then you will see: we will win there,» Yermak firmly emphasized.
According to him, in New York he met with U.S. President Donald Trump’s special envoy Steven Witkoff and assured him of Kyiv’s readiness to hold a face-to-face meeting between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and Russian President Vladimir Putin. It was noted that this issue had also been discussed on August 18 in Washington during the bilateral meeting between Zelensky and Trump, with the participation of several European leaders.
«We needed to comprehensively discuss the events that have occurred during this period. Unfortunately, after the successful negotiations in Washington, we did not receive any clear signal from Russia about its readiness for the bilateral meeting that had been discussed at the White House. Therefore, it was important to once again emphasize and confirm Ukraine’s readiness for constructive cooperation,» Yermak concluded.
Thus, Kyiv made it clear that it intends to secure victory not only in the diplomatic process with Moscow but also in the political sphere. The topic will undoubtedly spark heated debates on the international stage in the coming weeks.
