Another road-transport tragedy occurred in Egypt. In the Matruh province in the north of the country, several carriages of a passenger train derailed. As a result of this unexpected accident, three people lost their lives and another 54 passengers sustained injuries of varying severity.
According to the official statement of the Ministry of Health, the tragedy happened while the train was traveling along the Alexandria–Mersa Matruh route. Several carriages overturned and went off the tracks. As a result, dozens of people were taken to hospitals, where they are receiving urgent medical care to restore their health.
After the tragedy, the country’s leadership called an emergency meeting. Egypt’s Deputy Prime Minister for Industry and Transport, Kamel al-Wazir, ordered the creation of a special committee. This committee is expected to determine the real causes of the accident and apply maximum legal punishment to those responsible.
The incident caused great concern among the country’s population and the public. Especially considering that thousands of people travel by passenger trains every day, such accidents are regarded as alarming and dangerous situations.
