US President Donald Trump strongly demanded the immediate release of 20 Israeli hostages from the Palestinian Hamas movement.
The American leader personally wrote about this on the social network Truth Social.
"Tell Hamas to immediately return all 20 hostages (exactly all of them, not 2 or 5 or 7!) and the situation will change dramatically. The war will end!" Trump stated.
As a reminder, on March 18, the Israeli army resumed hostilities in the Gaza Strip, delivering heavy strikes on the enclave. With this, the January truce was officially broken.
Commenting on the purpose of the operation, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's office stated that this was due to the Palestinian HAMAS movement's refusal to accept proposals submitted through intermediaries and the US President's Special Representative, Stephen Whitkoff.
The explanation notes that the main goal of the military operation was the release of all hostages.
Hamas, in turn, blamed Israel and the US for the resumption of hostilities.
