A road tragedy in the southern region of Sri Lanka has shocked the entire nation. According to the Adaderana portal, on the evening of September 4, a bus veered off the road near the city of Ella and plunged into a 150-meter-deep ravine.
Official reports state that there were 30 passengers along with the driver on board. Sadly, at least 15 people lost their lives in the accident. Among the victims were members of the city council of the resort town of Tangalle.
Preliminary police information indicates that the tragedy occurred after the vehicle went off the main road. Rescue teams and medical staff are currently working at the scene, assisting the injured and searching for survivors.
Experts emphasize that such incidents once again highlight the urgent need to strengthen road infrastructure and safety measures in Sri Lanka’s mountainous regions. Carelessness on the roads or technical malfunctions can pose a serious threat to human life.
