The major floods that have occurred in Pakistan over the past two months have brought great destruction and suffering to the country's population. According to Farid Abdulkadir Aywar, head of the Pakistani delegation of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC), 884 people died and thousands were injured as a result of these floods.
Speaking at the week's press conference at the UN Office in Geneva, Aywar noted that Pakistan has been experiencing the largest flow of monsoon rains in history since the end of June. According to him, large-scale floods, landslides, and major destruction occurred in almost all regions of the country, including Sindh, Punjab, and Baluchistan.
"As of September 5, 884 people have died, thousands have been injured, and more than one million people have been evacuated," Ayvar said. This demonstrates the terrifying power of the monsoon and the direct impact of nature on human life.
According to him, approximately 9,363 apartments were partially or completely destroyed. Millions of people in affected areas have been deprived of clean drinking water, sufficient food, and medical care. Therefore, it is important for the international community to provide immediate assistance and accelerate the evacuation process.
Many charitable organizations and government agencies are actively working together to provide prompt assistance to the population at the scene of the incident. It is hoped that with their help, it will be possible to save the lives of the victims and ensure a full recovery process.
