According to the German weekly publication Der Spiegel and the news agency AFP, the Berlin government was supposed to present its proposals for ensuring Ukraine's security at a meeting of the "volunteer coalition" in Paris. According to reports, German Chancellor Friedrich Mers is scheduled to participate in the meeting via videoconference to discuss the plan for Ukraine's security for the post-war period.
According to AFP, citing government sources, the main focus will be on strengthening Ukraine's air defense and offensive military capabilities. At the same time, it was emphasized that Merz's package of proposals did not provide for a plan to deploy Bundeswehr troops on Ukrainian territory.
Interlocutors in Berlin reported that a number of conditions are necessary for Germany's participation in ensuring Ukraine's security. In particular, the readiness of the US and Russia for negotiations, the achievement of consensus within the framework of the government coalition, and support in the Bundestag are considered important.
As reported by Der Spiegel, the German government intends to limit the Bundeswehr's participation in ensuring Ukraine's security after the signing of the peace agreement. In this way, Berlin is trying to avoid taking on excessive obligations.
Thus, at the meeting of the "volunteer coalition" in Paris, Berlin's proposals are expected to become one of the most important issues of Kyiv's security.
