Iranian Kitty O'Brien, who was punched by a police officer during a demonstration in Berlin involving Palestinian supporters and whose hand and nose were broken, stated that the treatment of the demonstrators by the German government and police should face harsh international criticism.
The 25-year-old activist stated that during a demonstration on August 28th, a police officer punched him twice in the face. As a result, O'Brien's nose and arm were broken, as well as his radial nerve was damaged, and he couldn't stay in the hospital for a week without receiving medical attention.
O'Brien stated that over the past two years, the German police have used excessive force against pro-Palestinian activists. According to him, attempts to silence activists "due to the ongoing genocide in Palestine" are unsuccessful; on the contrary, their actions are attracting even more attention from the international community.
Earlier, on August 28, Berlin police dispersed about 200 demonstrators who gathered in memory of the journalists who died in Gaza, and eight people were arrested. The images depicting O'Brien's punch and its process caused widespread public discussion and were widely covered in the media.
