The 58-year-old mountaineer Sergey Melnikov, who had been searched for in the mountains of Sochi for a week, was found alive and well. This was reported by the Southern search and rescue service of the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations.
It turned out that he had crossed to the other side of the mountain ridge and reached the village of Aibga. Border guards found him there and brought him to a safe place. According to the vice president of the Russian Mountaineering Federation, Aleksandr Pyatnitsin, Melnikov is in good health and does not need medical assistance.
The search operations lasted for a whole week. The village of Aibga is located on the border between Russia and Abkhazia, at an altitude of 840 meters above sea level.
Sergey Melnikov works in the photo service of the Rosa Khutor ski resort. On August 29, he went into the mountains as a guide with two tourists. However, a day later the tourists returned without him, saying that he was too tired to descend.
Thus, after an anxious week, the discovery of the mountaineer alive brought genuine joy to his relatives and rescuers.
