Further restrictions related to the activities of media outlets and social networks have been noted in Turkey. According to information released by foreign media, while rallies are taking place in Istanbul, there are serious disruptions in access to popular online platforms.
According to reports, connection problems with popular social networks and messengers such as X (formerly Twitter), YouTube, Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, and WhatsApp began around 8:45 PM GMT on Sunday, September 7th. Users report that access to these platforms is limited and services are running slowly.
According to experts, these restrictions may have been implemented by the Union of Internet Providers of Turkey. However, the organization has not yet given any official comments.
At the same time, local journalists write that the restriction of access to social networks is closely related to political events. It was revealed that the restrictions were imposed after police barricades were installed in front of the Republican People's Party headquarters in Istanbul. After this incident, party activists and supporters called on the population to hold mass rallies.
As a result, it is assumed that soon the work of online platforms will be limited in order to prevent the rapid spread of calls and various video recordings spread through social networks.
