The trial in Tbilisi attracted public attention and caused a lot of discussion. Judge Nino Galustashvili sentenced two Russian citizens - Anastasia Zinovkina and Artem Gribul - on Friday, September 12th. They were sentenced to 8.5 years in prison, according to the Telegram channel Paper Kartuli and the online publication NewsGeorgia.
It is noted that this couple was found guilty of possession of large quantities of drugs. According to law enforcement agencies, 16 grams of synthetic α-PVP substance were seized from them.
However, the convicts themselves denied the charges in court. According to them, the drugs were deliberately stored by police officers. According to Zinovkina and Gribul, they wanted to be punished for participating in anti-government protests in 2024. Therefore, on December 17, 2024, they were detained and arrested.
During the trial, Anastasia Zinovkina made a very touching statement, saying her last word:
"I was deprived of the opportunity to have children and give a new life. But I want to see the revolution in Georgia as my own child," she said through tears.
This case caused great controversy in Georgia and aroused various opinions among the public. While one side supports the police accusations, others believe the prisoners were punished for political reasons. At the same time, Zinovkina's words sparked heated discussions in Georgian society.
