President of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Japarov signed a law "On renaming the city of Jalal-Abad to Manas." This was officially reported by the press service of the head of state.
It is reported that this law was adopted by the Jogorku Kenesh on September 10, 2025. The main goal of the document is to strengthen the national ideology, develop national memory and cultural heritage. It is also planned to name the city of Jalal-Abad after the great hero of the Kyrgyz people, Manas, who defended his people from various invasions.
The law came into force ten days after its official publication, after which the city was officially renamed Manas. This change has important historical and cultural significance for the urban population and local administration.
According to the historical data of the city of Jalal-Abad, its official founding date is October 1877. The total area of the city is 64.6 square kilometers, and more than 184 thousand people live here. About 30 percent of them are Uzbeks, and the ethnic composition of the city's population consists of various nationalities and tribes.
Local scholars and historians emphasize that renaming the city to Manas will not only preserve the historical heritage but will also serve to further develop local cultural life and strengthen respect for the culture of the Kyrgyz people.
At the same time, this decision has generated a positive response among the city's residents, who appreciate the attention paid to their historical and national values. The new name will also increase the cultural image and tourist attractiveness of the city.
